Our Approach

Ko Te Kōpū Māori te wāhi e tīmata ai te mahi waihanga i te tangata ā tinana, ā hinengaro, ā wairua, ā whatumanawa, ā, he tika anō kia kī ai mātou ko tēnei te kōpū e tīmata ai te mahi waihanga i tō ao Māori, e whakakahatia ana te ākonga ki te reo, ngā tikanga me ngā mātauranga Māori.

We at Te Kōpū Māori look back to our ancestral teachings, taking a Māori world view approach to learning and speaking Te Reo Māori to gain a deeper understanding of tikanga Māori. We start with the basics and build a strong foundation in all aspects of your reo journey and Māori knowledge.

Jamal was raised in Te Taitokerau, and his journey took him beyond to pursue Te Reo Māori me onā Tikanga, not only for his own enrichment but also to give back to his people. After dedicating the past six years lecturing in full immersion Te Reo Māori at Te Wānanga Takiura o Ngā Kura Kaupapa Māori o Aotearoa, he has returned home with a strong desire to serve his community.

As an engaging and passionate teacher, Jamal strives to create a unique and dynamic learning environment where students feel inspired and supported. He believes in making the learning of Te Reo Māori an interactive and enjoyable experience, helping students connect deeply with the language and culture. He believes that when learning is enjoyable, it becomes more meaningful and memorable. Jamal’s mission is to uplift and support the growth of Te Reo and cultural knowledge within the North and across the wider world.
